..and so it begins. February is a month with several major fashion shows and Pure London starts off the series as a different kind of show to its bigger relatives - open to all and more focussed on fashion here and now. Pure London has grown rapidly over past years and this year's show will include more than 1,100 brands - an exciting opportunity for buyers and the general public to get up to date with the very latest trends in womenswear.
London Fashion Week is the event that, every year, firmly places London at the top of the global fashion industry. Whilst the extensive web site may well be able to keep you fascinated for hours, London Fashion Week is actually only open to the trade and press. Well known designers and selected newcomers get the opportunity to present their collections to the fashion world and its highlights, in most cases, are the kind of clothes that will never appear in your favourite High Street store. Celebrating its 60th anniversary of this event in central London, Jewish Book Week (JBW '12) brings together a wide range of authors and scholars - historians and philosophers - to discuss their books and those of other authors in an ecumenical setting that certainly does not exclude non-Jewish visitors. A Children's Day preceeds the main event, taking place on Sunday 5th February, whilst the main event brings together a huge range of books and topics covering almost literally every topic under the sun.
Happening at the same time as London Fashion Week, the BRIT Awards are a major event in the music calendar and endorse London's pre-eminent position in the world of modern music. You and I may monitor the site linked above from 12th January, when the nominations are announced, until the main event, when the stars gather at the O2 Arena to find out who has won the coveted BRITs. The BRIT Awards are open to you and to me but we recommend getting your tickets as soon as possible as demand is always very high. Not just a night of awards, of course, as the BRIT Awards sees perfromances from many of the world's music celebrities.
Simply the biggest and best known family history event in the world, Who Do You Think You Are ?, sponsored by Ancestry.co.uk, is a wide ranging genealogy exhibition that gives those who have been researching their family's roots from some time as well as those completely new to the field a superb chance to find out what is new, discover the research carried out on a number of celebreties ancestors, discover what's new in the field and get advice on their own research from a range of experts in genealogy. From basic research techniques to the finer points of DNA research, Who Do You Think You Are covers a wider range of topics with more speakers and experienced advisers than any other show.
